1. Summarize the section found on page 695.
2. Answer the following question: What problems are created by uneven rainfall throughout the year? What are some solutions?

  1. 1. East Asia and Southeast Asia have three very different air masses. One is cold and dry, one is cool and dry, and one is warm and moist. These winds make the shape of the climates in East and Southeast Asia. The cold winds don’t get to the parts that lie below North China. The summer monsoon brings more than 80% of the yearly rainfall. Water currents also affect the climate. Warm currents are by Southeast Japan. It adds moisture and warms the land.
    2. The uneven rainfall found in this area makes typhoons and can destroy a lot of land.

  2. East Asia has three different air masses. One is cold and dry from the Arctic region. The second brings cool, dry air from the west. The last brings warm, moist air from the Pacific Ocean. The average temperature around Ulaanbaatar in January is -15 degrees Fahrenheit. Inland parts of East Asia, a monsoon can bring as much as 80 percent of the regions yearly rainfall. Ocean currents also affect the climate. In Japan a warm-water current flows north. It adds moisture to the winter monsoon as it warms the land. The warm waters of the Tropics help form typhoons.

Uneven rainfall can be very bad. It can cause monsoons and monsoons make floods. Another bad thing about uneven rain fall is that it can be dry in the winter. When it’s dry nothing grows. A solution for floods is to build your homes on stilts so your house doesn’t flood.

  3. Three different air masses shape the climates of East and South Asia. These air masses bring cold, dry air from the north, cool, dry air from the east, and warm, moist air from the Pacific Ocean. The climates of Asia differ tremendously. In Siberia, the winds bring freezing wind from the arctic, but In South Asia, the heat and humidity is very high. The warm waters of the coast of Southeast Asia can cause Typhoons to form. These typhoons can cause huge amounts of flooding and damage to cities located on the coast.
`There are many problems created by uneven rainfall. Some of these problems include the formation of deserts from too little rain and huge monsoons can be caused by too much moisture. These monsoons can be very problematic for many Southeast Asian villages because they can cause massive flood to occur. One effective way to prevent flooding is to build your house on stilts. Uneven rain fall can also cause devastating typhoons.

  4. 1. There are three different kinds of air masses in East Africa and Southeastern Asia. They are cold, dry air. The second one is cool, dry air, and the third one is warm, moist air. In the winter, Ulaanbaatar reaches -26 degrees Celsius. In the summer a monsoon can bring 80 percent more rainfall.
Ocean currents also affect the climate. A warm water current flows north to southeastern Japan. It adds moisture to the winter monsoon as it warms the land. The warm waters of the Tropics help typhoons. Typhoons can cause a great amount of damage.
    2. The problems that are created from uneven rainfall through the year are monsoons come and bring 80 percent more rainfall each year, and ocean currents affect the rainfall. The solutions are they are closer to the equator and warm temperatures year round.

  5. Three different kinds of air masses can be found in this region. There is the cold, dry air, cool, dry air, and warm, moist air. These winds can help shape the climates of the region. During the winter, the cold Artic winds can drop temperatures in Ulaanbaatar to about -15 degrees! During the summer, Asia can receive up to 80% or more of the region's yearly rainfall. This is caused by the warm, moist air brought by the pacific air.

One of the problems, this country receives are floods. Floods can destroy cities and force thousands of people out of their homes. One way, that they use, to prevent the destruction of their homes is that, the people living here, build their houses on stilts.
